Ribeiro∗ Departamento de F́ısica, Universidade Federal da Paráıba, Caixa Postal 5008, 58051-970 João Pessoa, Paráıba, Brazil (Dated: March 25, 2004) Abstract The Chern-Simons-like gravitational action is evaluated explicitly in four dimensional space-time by radiative corrections at one-loop level. The calculation is performed in fermionic sector where the Dirac fermions interact with the background gravitational field, including the parity-violating term ψ̄b /γ5ψ. The investigation takes into account the weak field approximation and dimensional regularization scheme.

متن کاملThe induced Chern–Simons term at finite temperature
It is argued that the derivative expansion is a suitable method to deal with finite temperature field theory, if it is restricted to spatial derivatives only. Using this method, a simple and direct calculation is presented for the radiatively induced Chern– Simons-like piece of the effective action of (2+ 1)-dimensional fermions at finite temperature coupled to external gauge fields. The gauge ...
متن کاملA Remark on Lorentz Violation at Finite Temperature
We investigate the radiatively induced Chern-Simons-like term in fourdimensional field theory at finite temperature. The Chern-Simons-like term is temperature dependent and breaks the Lorentz and CPT symmetries. We find that this term remains undetermined although it can be found unambiguously in different regularization schemes at finite temperature.
متن کاملCausality and radiatively induced CPT violation
We consider quantum electrodynamics with an additional Lorentzand CPT-violating axial-vector term in the fermionic sector and discuss the possibility that radiative corrections induce a Lorentzand CPT-violating Chern–Simons-like term for the gauge field. From the requirement of causality and the assumed validity of perturbation theory, we conclude that the induced Chern–Simons-like term must be...
متن کاملGeneral relativity from five dimensional Chern-Simons theory
We derive general relativity (GR) from a five dimensional Chern-Simons theory defined on a manifold with a boundary. The underlying mechanism is not a Kaluza-Klein reduction, rather, GR appears as an effective theory at the (four dimensional) boundary. It has been suggested many times that general relativity (GR) may not be a fundamental theory but only an effective theory arising from a still ...
